The OSU Cello Studio is is made up of both major and non-major cello students studying at Oklahoma State University from across the United States. At OSU you’ll find a cello studio that offers a real sense of community with students that are passionate, committed, and dedicated to their studies. We have a strong undergraduate program and are very happy to announce a new partnership with the Tulsa Symphony for graduate students. Visit music.okstate.edu for more information.
One of my primary goals as a studio teacher within a university setting is to create a studio atmosphere that invites students to feel secure in the learning process. Students that feel at ease are more open to absorbing new ideas, engaging in the learning process, and are more willing to take risks in the name of improvement. I work to create an atmosphere in weekly studio class that is positive, motivating, and non-judgmental. My students learn from one another and are encouraged to give constructive feedback. I also encourage my students to work together outside of studio class and have been pleased to hear that my students often play for one another throughout the week. In addition, I strive to cater my teaching to the individual and work to prepare my students to think and function independently. I focus on giving them to tools they need to operate in a self-sufficient manner inside the lesson, the practice room, and on the concert state.
