Praised for her “beautifully full and lyrically strong tone” by Gramophone Magazine, cellist Meredith Blecha-Wells is an active soloist, chamber musician, orchestral performer, recording artist, and pedagogue. She has performed throughout the United States and across Europe, Australia, South America, and Asia. Dr. Blecha-Wells currently serves as Assistant Professor of Cello at Colorado State University.

As a recording artist, Dr. Blecha-Wells has released recordings spanning solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoire. Her solo album, Small Storms, has been described as “technically dazzling” by The WholeNote, while Classical Music Discoveries praised her “lyrical warmth and her powerful athleticism.” Her discography includes the solo albums Beyond Words and Small Storms, as well as the chamber recordings Between Us: Music of Mary Howe and Three Perspectives: Inspirations of American Music and Visual Art. Her recordings have received national and international radio play, including broadcasts on WFMT Chicago and BBC Radio. Her orchestral recording work includes performing as principal cellist on Impossible Dream, which received a 2024 GRAMMY Award nomination, as well as recordings with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and as principal cellist of the Onyx Lane Recording Orchestra.

A dedicated chamber musician, Dr. Blecha-Wells is a founding member of the Pangaea Chamber Players, with whom she has toured extensively throughout the United States and internationally. Highlights include a seven-city concert tour of China, performances at Reynolda House Museum of American Art, and appearances on concert series and at universities throughout the country. She has also been a regular performer with Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble and Tulsa Camerata, with additional appearances with the Front Range Chamber Players and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Chamber Music Series. Her orchestral career includes a longstanding position with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, where she served as Assistant Principal Cello

Equally committed to performance and pedagogy, Dr. Blecha-Wells previously served as Professor of Cello at Oklahoma State University, where she received the College of Arts and Sciences Junior Faculty Award for Scholarly Excellence and the First Lady of OSU Distinguished Music Professor Award. Her students have continued their studies at many of the nation’s leading institutions, including The Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music, New England Conservatory, Rice University, University of Michigan, Manhattan School of Music, Cleveland Institute of Music, Northwestern University, and Indiana University. They have earned recognition through YoungArts, MTNA, and international competitions and have been selected for programs including the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America, NYO2, Aspen Music Festival, among others.

Dr. Blecha-Wells has taught at festivals, clinics, and institutes spanning six continents, working with students and teachers in a wide range of educational and cultural settings. She is co-director of the Colorado Cello Intensive, an immersive summer program that brings together cellists for intensive study, chamber music, and performance. A frequent clinician and presenter, she was a featured cello clinician at the 2024 American String Teachers Association National Conference and has been invited to return as a featured clinician in 2027.

Dr. Blecha-Wells holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Cello Performance from Indiana University. Her principal teachers include Janos Starker, Alan Harris, Emilio Colón, Helga Winold, and Marc Johnson.
